Steve Jobs 1955 - 2011

Our business, passion and beautiful community would not be possible without the genius he accomplished and inspired. Thank you Steve Jobs.

"It is difficult to cover the life of someone so public, someone who I never met but who has had a profound impact on my life. Let me just refer back to the presentation yesterday that his successor, Tim Cook, and the other Apple executives gave on the launch of a new iPhone and iOS 5. These executives, one after another, gave their pitch for the new products as sincerely as they could, imprinting their personal commitment to the launch. I think that is something peculiarly Jobsian. He stood on that stage time and time again standing up for his products and his vision. He didn't use actors (except for that rare and comical series of I'm a PC, I'm a Mac). He was authentic and set the standard for authenticity for his industry, and for his age. That is how a company should be run."

Apple Keynote Event (Updated)

Submitted by Alex Tuesday, 04 October 2011 14:17

Today Apple announced a new line of products, including the iPhone 4S, new iPod touch and iPod nano. Here's what you need to know:

New iPod nano has an upgraded OS with easier navigation and control. It also has an enhanced fitness application which syncs with online Nike+ services. It can track walking and running routines including distance, speed and pace. They've also noticed how many customers love using the iPod nano as a wrist watch and they've included 16 new clock faces. They even have a Micky Mouse watch! Looks really great. The price has also dropped, it's now $129 for 8GB and $149 for 16GB. Visit the store and order yours today.

The iPod touch has been updated with a new white model and will support iOS 5, the newest operating system for Apple's devices. It brings a ton of new features such as iMessage; which allows you to message your friends and family for free over Wi-Fi. The iPod touch price has also dropped, now starting at $199 for 8GB, $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB. It's available October 12th so come in and pre-order yours today.

Last, but certainly not least, is the iPhone 4S. Apple has taken the incredible technology in the iPhone 4 and added even more. The iPhone 4S is up to twice as fast, with it's dual-core A5 processor. It also has up up 7x faster graphics performance, which means gaming on it will be eye-melting. It offers an 8MP camera with 1080p HD video recording and the highest quality sensor ever in an iPhone. It can not only take better quality pictures and video, but it will also do it faster. It only takes .5 seconds between pictures, so you never miss the perfect shot. The next incredible new feature is Siri. Siri is like a personal assistant in your pocket. You can activate Siri with a single button and ask it things like "How's the weather in Toronto today?" or "Remind me to pick up the kids at 5pm" and Siri will do as it's asked. It understands natural language so you don't have to talk like a robot and it also speaks back to you in natural language. It's really fantastic. One other really neat feature is the Find My Friends app which lets you share your location with friends. They have put security at top of mind with this feature and you will be in full control of who and when your location is available. The iPhone 4S will be available on October 14th, so visit your cellular carrier or your nearest Apple Store to pick one up. Don't forget to protect your new iPhone with a good case, we have compatibile cases in stock today.

UPDATE: It appears that Siri Personal Assistant and Find My Friends may not be available in Canada to begin with, as they rely on many other technologies, companies and services which may not be in Canada. I will keep you posted.

UPDATE: reports that Siri will in fact be available in Canada. They released this quote from Jim Dalrymple of The Loop:

Many have become concerned that Siri will not be available in Canada, but it will. I’ve confirmed with Apple that Canadian users will be able to turn on Siri on their phones.

Siri is localized in US, UK and Australia, French and German. The company didn’t specifically use Canadian in the technology, but it worked just fine for me.
