Let’s face it, working out is not always easy to jumpstart after a long winter. Need some encouragement? No one brave enough to be your workout buddy?  Exercise time combined with activities like catching up on news, blasting through a new bestselling book or just soaking in some musical motivation can really empower you to spring clean your mind and body.

Once you start seeing results, you may even want to track your physical progress and challenge yourself with some fitness goals! Perhaps you may inspire some people you love to get competitive?

There’s no chance the thinnest iPod ever will weigh you down while you stroll through High Park or jog alongside the Don Valley River. You can de-stress and walk home from work instead of cramming yourself on the busy streetcar as the weather begins to glow. Not into music? Here are a few amazing ways to relax, boost your mood, and even learn from this tiny little gadget. I’ve included a few of my favourites if you need some ideas to get you started!

Podcasts
CBC Spark (Technology)
This American Life (Theme based real-life accounts)
CBC Q w/Jian Ghomeshi (Current events, Pop culture, music)
CBC The Current - Highlights (Segmented news topics)

Nike Fitness
Count your steps or kilometres with the built-in pedometer. Workout smart, not hard - connect a heart rate monitor (I discovered I was pushing myself unnecessarily hard. I enjoy my workouts more - especially now that I've found my optimal fat burning heart rate!)

Genuis
Create a motivational playlist that will lift you up on the days you just aren’t feelin’ it. Don’t have time to make a playlist? Sync up to 16 GB of music and start with just one upbeat track that you love and the Genius feature will keep you moving with similar feeling songs!

iTunes and “U”?
You can go back to university while hiking or strolling though the park. iTunes “U” has lectures from many well- respected universities that will help you sweep out the cobwebs and get you engaged physically and mentally.

This is some really fun, really enriching multitasking that I think is the perfect choice to shrug off the winter and and spring forward.
